Stand up paddleboarders on the Nolichucky River

Explore rivers from a totally new and addictive perspective with the top River SUP instruction program on the East Coast! While some prior SUP or whitewater experience is recommended this weekend clinic is designed to support enthusiastic paddlers of all skill levels – including complete beginners. Participants will learn and practice all of the fundamentals to confidently navigate easy whitewater up to class 2 – and possibly beyond.

Course Outline

The weekend begins at USA Raft Adventure Resort’s retreat center Friday with a late afternoon paddle where your instructors will have an opportunity to evaluate your baseline skills and identify goals for your time here. Saturday morning we spend some time warming up and going over the basics – equipment, trip planning, safety, logistics, etc. – followed by a short warm-up session on the water. Saturday afternoon we’ll paddle one of the many nearby easy rivers – class 1 and maybe easy class 2. Sunday we’ll spend a little one-on-one time focusing on your objectives and the exercises you can take home to practice. We’ll wrap the weekend with a final 2 to 3 hour trip that will test and hone your developing skills.

Closed for 2025

The obstacles to opening USA Raft Adventure Resort for the 2025 Season have simply overwhelmed our desire and work to re-open. Jones Branch Rd remains significantly damaged preventing heavy equipment access to the resort needed to complete major repairs. While we are excited to share the new and amazing Nolichucky River with you but must finish the dirty work of rebuilding.
