For over 20 years, church groups, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, families, camps and many others have been heading to the mountains to experience Mother Nature at her finest with whitewater rafting. These folks came for a variety of different reasons, some for the fresh air, some for the natural beauty, and some for the thrill of the river. All have left with an incredible memory of a wonderful wilderness adventure.
But there is more to rafting than a wonderful wilderness adventure. Rafting is a compelling, interactive teaching tool for Youth Leaders. Not only does rafting get our youth away from the TV and into the fresh air, but they love it, theypay attention, they listen, and they remember what they have seen, felt, and learned. It provides a metaphor for life values and a frame of reference from which to teach these values.
